About Nicholas Gotch

Nicholas was born in Brighton and studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Later he was awarded a Polish Government Scholarship in Composition to study in Krakow under the composer Marek Stachowski.

His music, mainly for orchestra and instrumental ensembles, has been widely performed and broadcast on BBC Radio and in Europe.

Awards received include the Composer’s Prize at the 1981 Huddersfield Festival of Contemporary Music for his piece ‘Dance, Monster, To My Soft Song!’, through to his recent 2nd prize at the 2019 Grazyna Bacewicz International Composer’s Competition for his orchestral piece ‘Earthrise’.

He was also awarded an Arts Council Composer’s Bursary, and his orchestral work ‘Fantazia In Memoriam Michael Tippett’ has been performed by several orchestras in the U.K.

Nicholas lives and teaches music in London.
